Neuropsychiatric symptoms

Prior to onset of HD, depression, anxiety, phobic anxiety, hostility, interpersonal sensitivity, obsessive-compulsiveness might occur. These disturbances might not progress with disease severity. Depression incidence is twice that among general population and in the majority of cases it is not a psychological consequence of HD diagnose confirmation.

The most frequent symptoms are agression, alcohol abuse, incresed appetite and sexual dysfunction. Delusions can occur commonly and hallucinations are less frequent.

Affected individuals are more likely to commit suicide especially prior to diagnosis or when they lose independence.
